A man suspected of drunk driving in Turlock drove his van into a parked car as a man, pregnant woman and infant were getting inside.

The 29-year-old male victim was pinned underneath his car, the infant suffered scrapes when she was ejected from her car seat and the 26-year-old woman suffered abdominal pain. All were taken to the hospital.

Turlock police were called to Orange and Main streets about 2:35 p.m. Sunday after a report that a man in a Chrysler van had hit a car and fled the scene, said officer Mayra Lewis.

As officers responded, they were told about a crash involving injuries five blocks south at Orange and Angelus streets.

The same van involved in the hit and run had crashed into a sedan parked on the east side of Orange, opposite the side of the street on which the van had been driving, Lewis said.

The impact from the van pushed the sedan onto the sidewalk and on top of the 29-year old-man. His legs were pinned underneath, Lewis said.

The 11-month old girl had been buckled into her car seat; however, her car seat had not yet been secured. She was ejected but escaped with minor scrapes and bruises.

The pregnant woman experienced abdominal pain as a result of the crash, but she and the fetus were OK, Lewis said.

The man suffered major injuries that were not life-threatening, including broken bones, Lewis said.

The driver of the van, 58-year-old Tomas Velazquez, was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail after being medically cleared at a hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury.
