Two hurt in Interstate 5 accident

Two people were injured in a collision on Interstate 5 south of the Merced County line Thursday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported at 1:52 p.m. just north of Oxford Avenue, about 20 miles west of Firebaugh.

Keisha Rentie, 20, of San Jose, was driving a 2012 Volkeswagen north on I-5 when she lost control of the car. The Volkeswagen hit a 2013 International commercial truck driven by Jose Yucupico, 32, of Dos Palos. The car went in to the median, across the southbound lanes and into a fence before coming to a stop in an orchard.

Rentie suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the Volkeswagen, Marcell Lebell, 22, of Fremont, suffered major injuries. Both were taken to Communitiy Regional Medical Center for treatment. Yucupico was not hurt.
