A southern California man who had been missing for nearly three weeks was found dead Friday from an apparent solo-vehicle crash, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Officer Jesse Lopez said a woman on a tour bus traveling westbound on Highway 152 near the San Luis Reservoir spotted a vehicle 200 feet down an embankment. Lopez said CHP and Cal Fire were notified and responded to the scene at 10:23 a.m.
Lopez said firefighters discovered a 2003 Toyota with one occupant that had been dead for some time.
“They checked the license plate and it came back to a Los Angeles man who had been reported missing April 19,” Lopez said.
The man has been identified as 24-year-old Mingzhe Cui.
Cui’s body and the vehicle were still down the embankment Friday afternoon. Lopez said it will take special equipment to bring them up the steep embankment.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. CHP officials said alcohol is not suspected in this incident.
