Ken Winter, 67, Turlock, was turning in southeast Turlock just before noon on Feb. 2 when, according to Stanislaus County sheriff's Detective Darwin Hatfield, another driver, Michael Hoyt, 49, thought that Winter did not stop his pickup at the stop sign at Linwood Avenue and Paulson Road. Winter's cousin Dana Walters said her family was told that Hoyt cut off Winter, then dragged him from his truck and a fight ensued. Winter suffered internal injuries and eventually suffered cardiac arrest.
Marcos Christian Alvarez of Modesto was shot in a gang-related attack on Jan. 21. Officers found Alvarez lying in the street in the 1800 block of Bonanza Way, just west of Carver Road and north of Mount Vernon Drive. The shooting occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Alvarez died at a hospital two days after the shooting.
Amadeo Avalos, 20, of Modesto, was gunned down while driving his small truck east on Whitmore Avenue near Morgan Road. Police received calls about gunshots at 11:08 a.m. and found the victim slumped over in the driver's seat of a Chevrolet pickup at the southeast corner of Whitmore and Morgan, Ceres police Sgt. Jose Berber said.
