Gallo Center adds four shows to season in Modesto

The Gallo Center for the Arts adds shows by bluesman Keb’ Mo’ and country act the Oak Ridge Boys, among others.

The Gallo Center for the Arts has added four shows to its 2014 schedule.

The downtown Modesto performing arts center is bringing in blues artist Keb’ Mo’, country quartet the Oak Ridge Boys, Latin chamber group El Mundo and ballet folklorico Rebozos. The acts join a busy year for the center, with shows already announced by Grammy-winning R&B singer John Legend and Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas.

Three-time Grammy winner Keb’ Mo’ will play May 6. This will be the bluesman’s first stop at the Gallo Center, though he has played the area in the past – most recently at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys in 2007. Rooted in the delta blues style, Keb’ Mo’ mixes folk, rock, jazz and pop into his sound.

The Oak Ridge Boys are slated for May 12. The group has more than 50 years making country and gospel hits, including a dozen No. 1 singles. The quartet is an area favorite and last played the Gallo Center in 2009 and Turlock Community Theatre in 2010.

The chamber group El Mundo will perform March 20 as a joint presentation with Modesto Junior College. The group plays 16th- through 19th-century Latin American, Spanish and Italian chamber music.

And for Mother’s Day, Rebozos’ show arrives May 11. The traditional ballet folklorico from Steven Valencia’s new Calidanza Dance Company of Sacramento will feature more than 20 dancers honoring rich Mexican traditions, as well as present a tribute to mothers in the audience.
