TURLOCK - Fresh fruits and veggies and a new location and manager will greet guests at the kick off for the Turlock Certified Farmers Market Friday.
The seasonal event, now in its fourth year back, has a new, slightly shifted home along South Broadway. Before the market straddled busy West Main Street, causing congestion for pedestrians and drivers. Now it runs continuously from W. Main to A streets. The new location is also longer, allowing for future expansion.
Also new this year is market manager Derek Griffin, who has volunteered and helped organize since its return in 2010. Former manager Brandon Follett is still with the organization, working now as a Market board member.
This year’s market will have about 40 vendors selling ranging from produce growers to prepared food stands and specialty items sellers. Live entertainment will be on hand, and the market is seeking more musical and dance groups to fill out the season.
The daytime market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays through October. This year there will be four night markets, which will run 4 to 8 p.m. on June 7, July 5, Sep. 6, and Oct. 25.
