The State Theatre will channel the French Riviera, circa the 1920s, tonight during a fundraising opening gala for Woody Allen’s latest film, “Magic in the Moonlight.”
The “Opening Night on the Côte d’Azur” event includes Champagne cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, including a “faux escargot,” prepared by Surla’s executive chef John Surla. Participants are encouraged to come in period costume – from formal gowns and tuxes to yachting attire.
The evening is a benefit for the nonprofit State Theatre. The party begins at 6 p.m., with the film screening at 7:30. Tickets for the gala and movie are $15.
“Magic in the Moonlight” will continue to screen at the historic downtown venue through Aug. 28. The State Theatre is at 1307 J St., Modesto. Call (209) 527-4697 or see www.thestate.org.
