“Viva Las Vegas”
The CareMore Senior Film Series brings the Elvis Presley classic “Viva Las Vegas” to the State Theatre. The 1964 film features the legendary entertainer playing a race-car driver competing in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Ann-Margret stars opposite Presley in the musical. The movie includes its title track and several other memorable song-and-dance numbers.
Enjoy an evening of string sounds at Symphomania from the Modesto Unplugged Music Federation. The event will feature string performers including the Bay Area’s Dirty Cello, Sierra Foothills duo Saul Rayo and Elena Powell and Tianjin Conservatory of Music graduate Xin Zhang. Dirty Cello plays a mix of blues, gypsy jazz and Euro-gypsy dance music.
ZZ Top and Jeff Beck
Expect monster guitars as ZZ Top and Jeff Beck join forces for a show at Murphys’ Ironstone Amphitheatre. Both ZZ Top and Beck were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone called Beck one of the top five guitarists of all time. ZZ Top, meanwhile, has scored hit songs including “Legs,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’.”
Hawaiian multi-instrumentalist Abe Lagrimas Jr. has forged a career as a ukulele player in addition to his work as a jazz percussionist. He performs at ukulele and jazz festivals throughout the world and released multiple albums in the United States, Japan and Korea. His ukulele repertoire includes jazz, Hawaiian, pop, rock and original music. His appearance at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock will include a pre-concert workshop starting at 5:30 p.m.
Wood Colony Country Fair
The Save Wood Colony campaign invites the public to the first-ever Wood Colony Country Fair & Colony Tour this weekend. The free event will feature live music and entertainment, a petting zoo, carriage and tractor hay rides, heirloom tomato tasting and garden tour, Fiscalini Farm Dairy tours, Woodland Firehouse tours and more. There also will be artisan crafts, children’s activities and more.
Daniel Castro Band
The Daniel Castro Band returns to the West Side Theatre. The Bay Area blues band has been a regular performer at the Newman venue since 2008. Blues great Elvin Bishop has called frontman Castro “the real deal.” The band’s new CD “Desperate Rain” was released in January.
