Modesto Grand Prix
Superkarts! USA is bringing the nation’s largest professional kart racing series to town for the 2014 Modesto Grand Prix. Professional drivers will race through downtown Modesto streets in the fifth annual SummerNationals event. About 350 SKUSA racers from around the world will take part in the event. Besides lining the streets, spectators can watch the action from bridges and on big-screen TVs. There also will be a Formula 1-style festival with live bands, entertainment and vendors.
Marco Antonio Solis
Mexican musician, producer and composer Marco Antonio Solis brings his solo show to the Stockton Arena on Saturday. The artist, who formed and was lead singer for the group Los Buki, has had 12 No.1 albums on Billboards Best Latin hits and 13 songs on Billboard Latino hits. He has received three Latin Producer of the Year awards and in 2010 received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His 1996 debut solo album “En Pleno Vuelo” reached No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.
Baby Boomer Comedy Cooldown
Three comedians “of a certain age” come together for a night of stand-up in the Baby Boomer Comedy Cooldown. Comics Will Durst, Richard Stockton and Dan St. Paul, who have performed on Showtime, David Letterman, VH-1 and Comedy Central, will bring the laughs for the baby boomer set. A barbecue dinner will be available beginning at 6 p.m. for $14.
“Monty Python Live (mostly)”
The famed British comedy troupe of Monty Python has reunited for the first time in 30 years for a limited run of shows in London that will be broadcast at the State Theatre. The downtown Modesto theater is one of about 420 venues around the world that will broadcast “Monty Python Live (mostly).” John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin will perform some of their biggest hits from their Python days. The show, being recorded live, will be rebroadcast at the State.
Country music star Chris Young brings his Grammy-nominated sound to the Bob Hope Theatre in Stockton. Young has charted five consecutive No. 1 Billboard Country single hits starting in 2009 with “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)” and continuing through 2011’s “You.” His latest album, “A.M.,” debuted last September and hit No. 2 on the Billboard Country Album charts.

Four guys named Mike are ready to make you laugh. Sacramento-based comics Mike Betancourt, Mike Sinclair, Michael Calvin Jr. and Michael O’Connell – who go by The Mikes – will perform an 18-and-older show. Their styles vary from “urban to suburban.”
