Stanislaus County Fair
Ten days of fun begins Friday as the Stanislaus County Fair opens its gates to the public. Enjoy the agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, festival food, live entertainment and more. The concert series kicks off at the Bud Light Variety Free Stage with country superstar Wynonna & The Big Noise.

Bastille Day Celebration
Grab a beret and head to the Bastille Day Celebration & Petit French Film Festival at downtown Modesto’s State Theatre. The event, which commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789, includes a double feature, “Midnight in Paris” and “Girl on a Bicycle.” Francophiles can enjoy complimentary croissants, champagne, crepes and mimosas. French club Cercles De Amis secretary Annie Thu Henrich will prepare crepes for the first 100 guests and there will be music by accordionist Bruno Cheri.

Modesto Junior College Foundation will offer “The Best of Broadway” for its 18th annual Summer Sonata. The fundraiser will feature food catered by O’Brien’s Market, a selection of fine wines and a touch of Broadway entertainment. The evening will include a reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction and program. The show will feature MJC students and alumni performing a selection of songs from Broadway shows.

On Golden Pond
Stage 3 Theatre opens its production of the touching family drama “On Golden Pond.” The play, which was made famous by the feature film starring Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and Jane Fonda, is about a daughter who reunites with her aging parents at their summer home on the lake, with her new stepson in tow.

Church Basement Ladies
The West Side Theatre Foundation brings the always-popular production “Church Basement Ladies” to the stage. The musical comedy will be directed by Linda Garrett and follows the trials and tribulations of a group of women who work in the kitchen of a church basement in rural Minnesota. It stars local performers Gail Chapman, Melanie Braun, Harlene Silva, Maddie Panarra and Joe Moitozo.

Mother Lode Fair
Celebrate a Gold Country tradition at the Mother Lode Fair. This year’s expo includes a demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls and motocross. Concert performers include Doobie Brothers tribute act Doobie Rock, Flying Blind, Tom Drinnon and Chains Required.
