Festivals abound this weekend in Modesto, foothills regions

A slew of festivals are happening this weekend. Some will make you jump, some will make you nosh, others will make you sweet, and some will make you wheel around. All promise family fun.
Here’s a look at the major events scheduled today through Sunday:
JUMPING FROG JUBILEE: The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee has hopped back into the foothills. The popular event features an annual jumping frog competition and county fair with food, exhibits, bronco and bull riding, entertainment, livestock, arena events, vendor booths and more. The Jumping Frog Jubilee culminates Sunday afternoon with the top 50 frogs competing in the International Frog Jump Grand Finals.

FAMILY CYCLING FESTIVAL: The 19th annual Family Cycling Festival and the Modesto Downtown Criterium deliver fun on two wheels. The Cycling Fest features free children’s bike helmets, BMX stunt shows, obstacle courses and races, bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, face painting and more. The Criterium is offered in a variety of race categories, from beginner and child to professional.
When: Cycling fest, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; Criterium registration begins 7:30 a.m.
Where: Downtown Modesto. Cycling fest, I Street between 11th and 12th streets; Criterium races begin and end at the corner of 13th and H streets.

OAKDALE CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL: Indulge your sweet tooth at the 22nd annual Oakdale Chocolate Festival. The event includes arts and crafts, food, fun runs, kids activities, car shows, live music, vendors, and entertainment. And then there is the sweet stuff. Chocolate Avenue offers chocolate treats from fudge and toffee to crepes, candy and more. The Chocolate Challenge Stage will select members of the audience to challenge each other in games featuring chocolate.
When: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

CAFE SHALOM: The 44th annual Cafe Shalom Jewish food, culture and art festival returns. Enjoy delicacies including bagels and lox, noodle kugel and blintzes. The festival also has a bake shop, cultural arts, a craft fair, sanctuary tours, folk dancing and live music.
When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday

Tickets: Free admission, brunch tickets $10 advance, $12 door, $8 children
