Stanislaus road tax proponents learned from mistakes

Voters throughout Stanislaus County are receiving colorful mailers with information on an upcoming road tax measure.

CAMPAIGN WORKSHOP: Interested in learning how to run for elected office or being involved in other aspects of a campaign? A free campaign workshop will be held June 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at The Bee, 1325 H St. The workshop, open to the public, addresses everything from filing the proper documents on time and with the proper agency to recruiting and training volunteers to get out the vote. Attendees will hear from local elected officials, a certified public accountant and campaign consultants. Reservations may be made by contacting the Modesto Chamber of Commerce at 577-5757 or mdodge@modchamber.org. The workshop is sponsored by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Democratic Party of Stanislaus County, the Republican Party of Stanislaus County and The Bee.

Israelis, Palestinians: Mixed feelings about Obama

Both Israelis and Palestinians came away from Barack Obama's visit to the Holy Land with the feeling he would do more for Mideast peace than President Bush has. But neither side seemed fully convinced that Obama would have their interests at heart.

Should the votes of dead people be counted?
