Describe the services provided by your agency: Hutton House is a temporary shelter for homeless and runaway teens and the only one of its kind in Stanislaus County. Hutton House has been in operation since 1976 offering support to youth and their families with issues such as neglect, abuse, substance use and family dynamics. Teens 13 to 17 have access to food, shelter, counseling services, a clothes closet, classes for teens and parents and a 24-hour crisis line at the shelter.
How many individuals and/or families do you assist per year? Hutton House averages 300 unduplicated teens needing shelter each year.
How would a $10 donation be used to help your clients?
1. Shampoo and body soap for a month
2. Oral care items for four clients
3. Bus passes to get to school
4. Five pairs of socks
How about a $25 donation?
1. 10 family-style meals
2. A pair of shoes
3. Pajamas
4. Underclothes
Or a $50 donation?
1. A backpack filled with school supplies
2. 20 meals
3. Four parenting classes for one family for one month
How would your agency use a donation of $50 or $100 for your own program costs? $100 would provide five counseling sessions, or personal care items for four youth for a year.
Do you need volunteers? If so, what is the contact number for people who are interested? People wishing to volunteer should contact Maria Preciado at 526-1476. Volunteers typically go through training and background checks. To view volunteer opportunities, please go to our Web site at www.centerforhumanservices.org.
Anything else we should know? With families experiencing crisis due to the current economic situation, Hutton House has seen an increase in youth seeking shelter. In September, 23 teens found the shelter's eight beds full when they stopped by for help. These youth were assisted in finding an alternative safe place to stay, but there was no room at Hutton House.
