CERES -- A tip turned in to Crime Stoppers led to the arrest Monday of a juvenile wanted on suspicion of attempted murder stemming from a shooting in Modesto in July.

Modesto police officers used the information turned in over the tip system to locate a 17-year-old boy at a residence on Cherise Court in Ceres.

Modesto officers and detectives went to Ceres and obtained a search warrant and assistance from the Ceres Police Department's SWAT Team, Modesto police Sgt. Brian Findlen said.

Using the HipLink notification system, they alerted about 100 homes by phone, telling residents to remain indoors. About 2:30 p.m., officers entered the home and arrested the juvenile without incident, Findlen said.

He was wanted in connection with a shooting at a convenience store on the 3400 block of Oakdale Road in Modesto last summer.

By 3 p.m., officers used the HipLink system to notify area residents they could return to normal activities, Findlen said.

The suspect was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police ask anyone with information about crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters also can e-mail tips through the Crime Stoppers Web site, www.modestopolice.com/ CrimeStoppers, or text tips to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" plus a message. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
