Merced County deputies chase suspected felon to Modesto

A pursuit that started near Keyes ended after the suspect crashed a pickup into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon in Modesto, authorities said.

Officers caught up to Armando Vasquez and took him into custody after he ran from the crashed gray Dodge pickup, police said. Vasquez was wanted in connection with a Merced County crime.

On Wednesday, Merced County sheriff's officials spotted Vasquez driving the pickup in the Keyes area. Vasquez then fled and the chase began. Modesto and Ceres police joined the pursuit that ended about 3:15 p.m. when the pickup crashed on Riverside Drive.

Medics treated Vasquez at the scene before he was taken into custody.

Information about Vasquez's charges was not available Wednesday evening.
