Several drug hot line tips led police Thursday to a west Modesto home, where they arrested a man suspected of selling his medicinal marijuana to his friends.
Ruben Moreno, 22, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for the purpose of sales and illegal possession of a firearm.
Modesto police received tips that several people were seen smoking marijuana at the home in the 900 block of Roselawn Court, said officer Romel Cuellar, a police spokesman.
The department's Crime Reduction Team arrived at the home shortly before noon.
Cuellar said the officers spoke with the home's resident, Moreno, who has a medicinal marijuana card for his own use. Moreno consented to a search of the home. The officers found several people in the garage smoking marijuana. The people in the garage did not have medicinal marijuana cards.
Cuellar said the officers then determined Moreno was selling his marijuana to his friends.
During the search, the officers found a .22-caliber handgun and five marijuana plants growing outside near the garage. The gun was not registered to Moreno and it was confiscated.
Cuellar said medicinal marijuana users are allowed to grow marijuana, but only for their personal use.
They cannot sell it to others. The plants were seized as evidence.
No other arrests were made at the home.
