A 49-year-old man imprisoned for repeatedly stabbing a minimart clerk because she would not hand him a beer while he was robbing the store was found unsuitable for parole, the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office announced.

Andrew Flores, formerly of Modesto, was convicted of attempted murder, infliction of great bodily injury and robbery in 1989.

The clerk suffered substantial injuries, nearly bled to death and required two surgeries over several years, according to the district attorney's office.

Flores is serving a life sentence and has been denied parole six times. He will be eligible for another parole hearing in three years.

Among other sentences announced recently:

- Israel Gonzalez, 18, of Fresno was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of carjacking and inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.

On June 15 in Turlock, Gonzalez was living at a group home. Gonzalez and another group home resident kicked and punched the group home's 60-year-old female caretaker. Gonzalez and the other assailant then took the victim's vehicle and fled to Fresno.

They were apprehended within two days of the beating. The victim has since recovered from her injuries. Both of the defendants were 17 at the time of the attack.

- Richard Ruben Garcia, 22, of Ceres was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of robbery.

On Feb. 20 at 6:36 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a reported robbery and carjacking in Ceres. The two victims said they were parked in the driveway of a residence drinking beer with some acquaintances. Several of the acquaintances turned on the victims, beating and robbing them of their money, credit cards and car.

- Bill Lee Flowers, 48, of Modesto was sentenced to seven years in prison for the sale of heroin and having been previously convicted of selling a controlled substance.

On Feb. 15, Flowers sold $40 worth of heroin to an undercover operative working with the Modesto Police Department.
