The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the June 1 slaying of 18-year-old Gustavo Orosco in Empire. (Previous reports incorrectly stated his age as 19.) Shortly before 11 p.m. on June 1, Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 4900 block of Yosemite Boulevard in Empire. Deputies found Manteca resident Orosco and a 19-year-old Latino from Riverbank had been shot. Orosco died at a hospital. The Riverbank man was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. The two had stopped to eat at a taco truck in the 4900 block of Yosemite Boulevard when they were confronted by a group of men asking them about gang associations. The two tried to leave when the men attacked them. There were several witness to the incident and police hope they will contact investigators, Detective Jon McQueary said in a news release Tuesday. Anyone with information is asked to call McQueary at 525-7099. Callers also can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. For more information about The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation, call Scott Webb at 567-1059.
