A shooting incident early Sunday in Planada injured two men, authorities said. The Merced County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting, which happened about 4:30 a.m. in the 9000 block of Bigler Drive. Two men were confronted by at least two other people and a fight broke out, said sheriff's spokesman deputy Tom MacKenzie in a statement. One man was shot in the shoulder with a small-caliber handgun. A second man was cut in the face with either a knife or razor. The shooting victim was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. The man who was cut on the face was taken to the Merced Community Medical Center. Both men are expected to recover from their injuries. The reason for the fight is unknown. The victims are not cooperating with law enforcement, according to the statement. The victims' ages were unknown Sunday. The Merced sheriff's office asks anyone with information about this incident to call 385-7472.
