Modesto heist thwarted; No one hurt

last updated: September 13, 2008 12:15:55 PM

Two men carrying weapons robbed a market on Paradise Road in west Modesto on Friday afternoon and ran out with the cash register, but the suspects dropped it with the money as they fled, a Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. Deputy Royjindar Singh said the money was recovered.

He said the two men walked into Khampong Cham Market at 637 Paradise Road about 5:20 p.m.; one robber was carrying a gun and the other a tire iron.

The robbers fled in a burgundy car west on Paradise, Singh said.

Sheriff's officials ask anyone with information about this robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters also can e-mail tips through the Crime Stoppers Web site, www.modestopolice.com/CrimeStoppers, or text tips to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" plus your message.
