I have an update on Sammy, the Labrador retriever who went from being a rambunctious dog to one reluctant to even get out of bed. His veterinarian placed him on antibiotics with instructions for a follow-up exam in a week.
Bailey is not sick and, according to Martha, has never been sick. But about a year ago, the 9-year-old chow chow developed multiple lumps in various areas on her body. She had some under her neck and in front of her shoulders, and Martha recalls some on the dog's back legs as well. About two weeks after Martha noticed the lumps, they had disappeared. Now Bailey's lumps have returned.
It is estimated that more than 30 percent of dogs and cats are obese — not just overweight, but truly obese. That means they are hauling around30 percent or more of excess fat.
