It's not easy being The Bee's food columnist. I spend grueling hours flipping through magazines and searching Web sites, seeking recipes to e-mail to the paper's recipe testers. On top of that, I actually have to cook these recipes I'm paid for my time and serve the results to my family for dinner.
It's no secret that people don't go out to dinner as much as they used to.
The secret ingredient won't be pork belly or giant eel. But an "Iron Chef"-style competition next week at Modesto Centre Plaza will have three notable chefs, on-the-floor commentary and discriminating judges ready to declare whose cuisine reigns supreme.
