One important ingredient in a good tamale is lard. The problem is finding it. I'm looking for the real thing, not the product that is sold alongside the shortening in the grocery store. Does anyone know where I can buy lard in small quantities for home use in the Sacramento area?
Rescue two recipes: Years ago, The Bee had a couple of recipes that I saved but were stolen in a burglary. One was for wilted celery soup and the other was for mustard potatoes made with mustard seeds and curry powder.
I would appreciate very much if anyone had these recipes and would share them. Thank you so much.
Frank Fat's banana cream: Some years ago, The Bee printed Frank Fat's banana cream pie recipe. I can't find my copy.
Does anyone have this recipe?
Taste of Africa's jollof: I love the chicken and rice jollof served at A Taste of Africa off Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento. When the rice is ordered, you can add your choice of meats. The dishes with the meat have no name, so I can't tell you what the chicken dish is called. It is served in a red sauce similar to the one used in the rice jollof. I'm wondering if anyone has a good recipe for this type of chicken and rice dish. Thank you.
