While they're not exactly getting the band back together, George Reynolds and Ron Daily are back to clipping together.
The longtime Modesto barbers started out working together at Richard's Barber Salon in McHenry Village in the late 1960s, but then parted ways in the late 1970s. Now, more than 30 years later, they're sharing a shop again.
Reynolds, 67, and Daily, 64, joined forces this month, working out of Daily's shop, Hair Crafters at 1719 Prescott Road.
The friends and professional partners' barbershop comes complete with the traditional red-and-white-striped pole.
"We've got a lot of history behind us," Reynolds said. "We thought it would be a good adventure for both of us. We're getting older and the support factor is nice. Also, there is the need for our type of service. There just aren't many of us left. And we're good at what we do."
The barbershop caters to male clientele, but it will happily help women with their coiffure needs.
The two-man operation is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
Over the years the two men have boasted an impressive who's who of Modesto as clients including Bob Gallo, former Bee editor Ray Nish, Olympian Cy Young and Doctors Medical Center founder Dr. Howard F. Nachtman.
Reynolds said despite both being in their 60s, neither is thinking of retiring. Instead they said they want to bring back the barbershops of old.
"We take care of people," he said. "We have all kind of connections, we can tell you where to get new tires, get your truck painted, find a plumber. We can help them save money. The barbershop used to be the hub, the center. We can do that."
