The federal government is seeking ideas about how to spend conservation money on California farms, ranches and forests next year. The Natural Resources Conservation Service will hold a Nov. 9 meeting near Modesto as part of its effort to set priorities for the money. The possible projects include preventing water and air pollution, enhancing wetlands and other wildlife habitat, and shifting land to organic farming. The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the Stanislaus County Agricultural Center, 3800 Cornucopia Way, off Crows Landing Road.
The Agribusiness Committee of Merced County will hold its annual Farm-City Banquet on Nov. 19. The event is a chance to honor people for their service to farming and the community, and to raise scholarship money for agriculture students. This year's honorees are:
