40 YEARS AGO: The Growers' Harvesting Committee claimed that Stanislaus County growers were paying the highest wages in the world to farm laborers. Rae Codoni, secretary-manager of the committee, said Stanislaus wages for farm work had exceeded those paid in Hawaii, which had formerly conceded to be the highest paying.
