The seventh annual Taste of the Valley event, set for Thursday evening in Turlock, will benefit the scholarship fund at California State University, Stanislaus, agricultural studies department. It will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Assyrian-American Civic Club, 2618 N. Golden State Blvd. The event will feature wine, cheese, hors d'oeuvres, and live and silent auctions. Chuck Cozzitorto of Hilmar has qualified for the 2010 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship, to be held June 17-19 in Oklahoma City. He was among the top eight scorers at a regional event in Billings, Mont., last month. The competition tests professional auctioneers on the clarity of their chant, their ability to spot bidders and other skills needed to conduct a livestock sale. The event has been put on for 47 years by the Livestock Marketing Association, based in Kansas City, Mo.
