Lisa Toledo Valdez disappeared in July 2015, last seen near Dryden Park golf course along the Tuolumne River in Modesto. Her remains were discovered in another river in another county more than two months ago, and DNA confirmed the identity. Her family, suspecting the worst for the past few months, at least knows her fate, which, they say, is better than living with the unknown.

Rice rushes for 264 as Modesto’s Central Catholic rolls in opener

Tailback Jared Rice, the 1,000-yard rusher who spent the 2015 season in the shadow of 2,000-yard rusher Justin Rice (no relation), busted out with 264 yards and three touchdowns in his debut as Central Catholic’s featured back, leading the Raiders to a 42-17 win over Marin Catholic in a rematch of last year’s Northern California title game.
