Brown to overturn the parole of Jeffrey Maria, one of four men convicted in the brutal murders of Modesto residents Phil and Kathy Ranzo in 1979. Their efforts worked, and Brown kept Maria in prison. With Maria again recommended for freedom, and crime ringleader Marty Don Spears as well, will their tactic work again? Tuolumne River flowing on a quiet Sunday near La Grange

The Tuolumne River was flowing big just west of La Grange on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017. A big storm heading into the Modesto-area and the Sierra foothills is likely to increase the river flow and also raise the chances of more water being released from Don Pedro Reservoir just to the east.
