Modesto awarded $3.3 million in firefighting grants

The Modesto Fire Department has been awarded two federal grants totaling $3.3 million that will allow it to hire nine firefighters for two years and send a dozen firefighters to paramedic school. The grants will go to the City Council for approval at its Sept. 13 meeting.
