Special Report

This project is the result of a partnership between The Modesto Bee and the California HealthCare Foundation Center for Health Reporting. The Center is an independent news organization devoted to reporting about health care issues that concern Californians. It is headquartered at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism and funded by the non-profit, non-partisan California HealthCare Foundation. The project was also undertaken with the help of a Rosalynn Carter Fellowship for Mental Health Journalism, part of The Carter Center’s Mental Health Program. The Carter Center is guided by a fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering; it seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve health. The USC Annenberg/California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships also contributed to this report.
