Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen's response to Gov. Jerry Brown's budget veto ("Area state legislators react to budget veto," June 17, Page A-11) attempts to portray her as a champion of education and public safety, but the facts tell a different story.

So, it's OK to kill Osama bin Laden, but not to waterboard him? Very interesting.

In response to "Racism, fears are not new," (Letters, April 5), thanks to the author for redeeming my faith in the good people of Oakdale.

Every so often The Bee prints an article that should be hung on everyone's refrigerator. Victor Davis Hanson wrote such a column which appeared March 18 (Page A-9). The article may not be as powerful as the Gettysburg address, but nevertheless inspired me to write this letter.

In response to the March 25 article "Census: Hispanic population soars" (Page A-1): It is not surprising to me that there are fewer whites in Stanislaus County when the Hispanic population is soaring.
