The high school wrestling season has reached prime time, when the pressure increases, the palms grow sweaty and the lights shine the brightest. The Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championship convenes Friday and Saturday at the spacious Stockton Arena, a venue reserved for only the top qualifiers from each Section divisional.

Oakdale High didn't see the St. Mary's starters for long Tuesday night. The Rams, defending Division 3 state champions and the top seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, led 15-2 over the No. 16 Mustangs when St. Mary's coach Tom Gonsalves went with a fresh five players.

Kelsey Tillema scored 10 of her 17 points in the first quarter and added 13 rebounds as Ripon Christian beat Trinity Prep 50-28 to open the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 5 playoffs. RC (11-14), the No. 11 seed, built a 22-9 halftime lead, then outscored their hosts 16-9 in the third quarter to take command over Trinity (17-8) and allow every player on the roster a chance to see playing time.
