Last season: SR (3-2, 7-3) lost its bid for a playoff berth the final week.

Last league title: None

Last playoff berth: None

Top returners: QB/DB Evan Doss (Jr., 5-9, 175), RB/LB Brandon Nordman, OL/LB Jeremy Hahn (6-0, 185), Gabriel Ruiz (Jr., 5-9, 145), TE/LB Jason Penfield (Jr., 6-0, 195), OL/DL Tony Iencarelli (Jr., 6-0, 220), Amir Rashed (Jr., 5-10, 210).

Newcomer: RB Stephen Carrasco (Fr., 5-4, 145).

Outlook: Plenty of confidence after last fall’s success. There was only bad loss (44-6 to Big Valley); and the other losses were by a total of 8 points. Doss shifts from WR so the Knights can better exploit his athleticism, while Ruiz also shifts from the WR spot. Hahn had five sacks a year ago, and is likely be the top offensive lineman.

Worth noting: The Knights need to take care with Carrasco, a freshman who has good speed and can do some damage in the open field. ... With only 17 players, the team’s trainer could be a key component. Coach Fuller is creating new looks all around.

Key game: Week 10 vs. Big Valley Christian. Knights motivated after last year’s loss.

* Players are seniors, unless noted
