Info: The Modesto Jaycees need help with the Independence Day celebration. The following areas need volunteers throughout the day.
Flag sales: Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the grandstand on I Street and walk the parade route until 10 a.m. selling flags for $1 each. Contact Martha Williams at mfw444@hotmail.com.

Info: Summer lunch buffets at Columbia College are starting this week. Students enrolled in the college's Summer Culinary Arts Institute will plan, prepare and serve specially themed menus every Thursday through Aug. 6. Meals are $8.95 per person, tax included. Gratuities are gratefully accepted. The intensive nine-week program provides training in estimating food costs per meal, menu planning, baking skills, customer service and teamwork.
