Come Friday night, few football players in the Stanislaus District are busier than Ross Gonsalves, who plays quarterback and cornerback. In last week's 34-0 stunner over previously unbeaten Linden, the 5-foot-11-inch, 150-pound senior passed for 110 yards and a touchdown, carried five times for 68 yards and two touchdowns, and was also in on six tackles.

"Ross is one of those rare athletes that does what ever is asked of him without question. He'll do what ever it takes," coach Frank Marques said. "Ross was asked to be leader and he has done that without flaw. One of the toughest competitors I've ever been around."

Gonsalves has rushed for 272 yards, averaging 9.7 yards per carry, and is 20 of 31 for 302 yards and four touchdowns -- throwing just one interception.

He has run for at least 56 yards each week, including a 70-yard score in a season-opening 49-8 victory over Denair, to help the Yellowjackets to their 3-1 start.
