Hilmar defensive end

When the Yellowjackets lost their quarterback to injury the week before the season began, it was clear the defense would have to rise to the occasion.

Who knew that it would respond with such force?

"This is the best defensive team we have had here since I have been head coach," said Frank Marques, who in his sixth year and has a 52-11 record. "It's the same scheme we have used for the past few years, but this season it's the player that are making the big difference."

One of those players is Austin Giuliano, who had two sacks and was in on 11 tackles as Hilmar allowed 56 yards in a 28-0 win over Argonaut. It was Hilmar's third shutout in five games.

"Austin has tremendous quickness. He also has a very good knowledge of the game," Marques said. "What led to our shutouts was great team effort. We have 11 players flying to the ball every play."
