2. (1) Central Catholic (0-1): Depth an issue as Cardinal Newman scored 35 in second half of 38-20 win. This week's trip to Sutter could be crucial.

3. (3) Patterson (1-0): After opening with a 63-7 rout, life gets difficult for the Tigers with Escalon, Sierra and Downey coming up next three weeks.

4. (4) Escalon (1-0): It's always nice to have a kicker, and Cougars have a good one in Jason Diniz -- two field goals in 32-14 victory over Dixon.

5. (5) Calaveras (1-0): Redskins had to hold off Weston Ranch 20-18, but any time a small school beats a VOL team, it deserves proper respect.
