It's been a record-setting season for Modesto High, and that doesn't take into account tonight's opportunity to win its first section playoff game.

The potent backfield of tailback James Ingram and fullback Arquel Rogers have combined for 2,360 yards and 20 TDs going into tonight's first-round game at Los Banos.

Ingram set school records for yards in a game (253), season (1,336) and career (1,828). He would have set the record with six 100-yard games, too, but Rogers broke that earlier when he did it seven times.

Rogers is tied for the career record of nine 100-yard games and sits No. 3 on the career rushing list with 1,526 yards — and has another year to go.

Those yards have come behind a line anchored by tackles Anthony Amaya (6-6, 340) and Alejandro Cabrera (6-4, 235), who line up alongside guards Sammy Pallota (6-0, 250) and Alex Martinez (5-10, 260) and center Miguel Yanez (5-11, 250). That works out to an average of 6-1, 267 pounds.

"They are the foundation of our team. They love playing, working hard and never complain," said coach Rod Long, noting Israel Medellin fills in at guard. "Most have been at every workout since their freshman year and they are great students in the classroom. Irae Hosea at fullback fits right in with this group."

The 5-10, 280-pound Hosea occasionally adds more power on run plays.

Modesto also set records for points in a season (370) and a game (65), a record that was 88 years old (set in 1921, tied in 1925).

"This is something for our offensive linemen to be very proud of," Long said.
