Five weeks into the season, the Enochs High football team was without a win.

Four weeks later, the Eagles are in position to claim their first Modesto Metro Conference crown.

Christian Kahler threw two touchdown passes, J.T. Boles rushed for 126 yards and a score, and the Eagles' defense did the rest in a 20-10 victory over Davis Friday night at Modesto Junior College.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the Eagles, who will take on Modesto High next Friday night at Downey High for the MMC championship.

"Guys executed tonight," Enochs coach James Stacy said. "The defense played great. We were flying to the ball and getting where we needed to get. Offensively, we did a good job up front and ran the ball well.

"It's gonna be a nice game against (coach) Rod Long and Modesto. Rod and I coached together when we were over at Johansen, and it's gonna be a good one."

Kahler completed just 4 of 8 pass attempts but two of them went for touchdowns -- 24 yards to Herbert Whitehurst to open the scoring in the second quarter and 32 yards to D.C. Gardeley, who took a quick out from Kahler, then ran through the heart of the Davis defense for the go-ahead score in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

Boles iced the victory with an 8-yard scoring run with just over two minutes to play.

Davis (5-4, 2-2 MMC), held scoreless in the first half, carried a 10-7 lead into the fourth quarter after defensive lineman sacked Kahler in the end zone for a safety and quarterback John Woody ran the ball in from a yard out on the ensuing possession, then hit Demetrius Prunty with a two-point conversion pass with just under five minutes to play in the third quarter.

But the Spartans struggled to protect Woody, who was sacked three times and pressured constantly throughout the game by Enochs defensive linemen Christian Vasquez, Brian Schwark and Brandon Sewell, and linebacker Kurtis Sewell.

"They beat us," said Davis coach Len Johnston. "There's not much more you can say."

Xevion Vega carried 16 times for 102 yards for Davis.
