DONNAVAN JOHNSON
Enochs running back

Injuries, lopsided losses and a constant shuffling of players in and out of roles made the first half of the season tough for Enochs, which lost its first five and gave up an average of 42 points a game.

With health has come a resurgence. Health and the emergence of Donnavan Johnson, that is.

He had nine runs for 181 yards and three TDs in a 48-20 win over Downey, giving him 33 touches, 512 yards and nine TDs in three MMC games.

"We have all but one player (healthy) and we are able to use Donnavan as a motion back and use his speed," coach James Stacy said. He said that sophomore left tackle Eric Flores and senior right tackle Michael Garmon are anchors on the line.

Johnson catches, as well as runs: He caught five balls for 120 yards and 2 TDs vs. Johansen.

"We knew (against) Johansen the pass was open, but not the so much the run," Stacy said.

SMALL SCHOOLS

ISAAC DIAZ
Hilmar running back

It was only August, but coach Frank Marques already had high hopes for Isaac Diaz. A slight junior, the 5-foot-6, 140-pound Diaz had shown a wonderful ability to make big plays on last year's JV squad.

Diaz hasn't disappointed, whether he's been asked to run, catch or throw the ball. He did a little of everything in Friday's 49-20 win over Gustine.

Diaz had four carries for 72 yards — including a 52-yard TD run — caught a 21-yard TD pass from Quinton McCown, and tossed a 70-yard TD.

"He had a great sophomore season and had great numbers, so we knew going into this year that he had to be a key player on our team," said Marques, noting Diaz plays both sides of the ball.

He has scored 11 TDs for the 7-1 Yellowjackets.

"He a great athlete with a great knowledge of the game," Marques said. "He (starts) on both sides and has not missed playing time for injuries."
