Nuts fall to Blaze for eighth consecutive loss

July 6, 2014

The Modesto Nuts dropped their eighth consecutive game, falling to the Bakersfield Blaze 3-2 on Sunday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

David Vidal singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Blaze took the third game of the four-game series, which concludes tonight.

Jayson Aquino, who went 52/3 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out five, took the loss for Modesto and saw his record fall to 2-6.

Juan Ciriaco provided the offense for Modesto with a two-out, two-run single in the second that gave the Nuts a 2-1 lead. With two out and a runner on first, Patrick Valaika and Kyle Von Tungein each singled to load the bases before Ciriaco’s single.

Bakersfield tied it in the third on a double, an error a hit batsman and Sebastian Elizalde’s sacrifice fly.

After today’s series finale, the Nuts travel to play Stockton for three games before returning home to John Thurman Field on Friday for the start of a four-game series against Bakersfield.
