Fire starts near downtown Modesto, along river

Kids playing with fireworks in downtown Modesto on Sunday afternoon started a small fire that was out by the time firefighters arrived, the Modesto Regional Fire Authority reported. No injuries or property damage were reported, although fire officials continued investigating the fire, reported at 1:50 p.m. at 14th and F streets. Saturday afternoon, 15 firefighters from five engines battled a two-acre brush fire of unknown origin for about an hour. Reported at 3:06 p.m., the blaze was at Tuolumne River Regional Park near Modesto’s airport neighborhood. The fire caused no injuries and burned no homes.
