Nuts lose to High Desert on day Story promoted

June 26, 2014

The Modesto Nuts took the field at High Desert on Thursday night without California League all-star Trevor Story, who was promoted to Double-A Tulsa.

Without the league’s fourth-leading hitter (.332), the Nuts dropped a painful 6-5 walkoff loss.

The Mavericks’ Bryan Brito, who reached base on a passed ball that would have been an inning-ending strikeout, scored moments later on Patrick Brady’s double to left off tough-luck loser Alving Mejias (0-1). Modesto rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie 5-5 on an RBI double in the seventh by Jordan Ribara (3-for-4, 2 RBIs).

Story earned his promotion with his .332 average, five home runs and 28 RBIs, including a home run Wednesday night at San Jose.

Last season in Modesto, he hit .233 and struck out 183 times in 130 games. The Nuts continue their four-game series at Adelanto tonight.
