Early morning fire damages vacant Modesto house

Bee Staff ReportsJune 25, 2014

A fire broke out early Wednesday at a home in south Modesto.

According to Modesto Regional Fire Authority acting Operations Chief Alan Ernst, firefighters responded at 3:13 a.m. to a blaze in the 1100 block of Boulder Avenue.

Crews arrived to find a vacant, single-story house with heavy smoke showing. The home was boarded up, and firefighters had to get through the boards to get access to the house.

Firefighters contained the fire within 20 minutes. A search of the home found no one inside.

The center of the house and the attic sustained most of the fire damage, estimated at $75,000. Crews remained at the scene for several hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
