Ed Staley: If it’s closed, why manage it?

June 20, 2014

Isn’t it reassuring when the government tries to tell us something but doesn’t quite make sense?

For example, city doublespeak told us that “We can save money by not replacing the people that are not there”. Well, here comes an even better quote from the county in a photograph in The Modesto Bee.

The sign on the former county landfill reads, “This landfill is permanently closed.” Underneath those words it says, “Operated by Stanislaus County.”

Only government could operate something that is permanently closed.
