Bruce R. Frohman: Individuals promote civic pride

June 9, 2014

Congratulations to the organizers of this year’s graffiti celebration. Every year, it just gets better!

John Sanders deserves credit for resurrecting the celebration in the early 2000s. He worked with then-Police Chief Roy Wasden to convince the City Council that a safe event could be staged. Over the years, the annual event has grown. Twenty years from now, the celebration will probably be different, led by a new group of involved citizens. As long as the event can be kept safe for families, it should remain popular.

The cultural icon for the younger generation is Chris Ricci, organizer of the annual X-Fest celebration each July and other venues. Hopefully, he will continue to bring world-class entertainment to Modesto for years to come.

Murphy should be recognized for all he does for our community. Whenever something fun happens, he seems to be involved in the project.

The three gentlemen mentioned in this letter are examples of how the efforts of one person can make a big difference in the quality of life in a community. When you see them, please thank them for their civic spirit.
