Michael Rollins: Parade could be improved

June 9, 2014

First off, congratulations to the city of Modesto and the North Modesto Kiwanis – overall, a great evening all around.

I am a Sheriff STARS volunteer and was on McHenry Avenue helping with traffic well north of Morris Avenue on the north flow of the parade. Can “too much of a good thing” become a problem? Well, just maybe. The north traffic was moving very slowly, and several cars asked to get out because of overheating.

Next year – only cars that are driven be allowed to cruise. Towing a long dragster may look cool, but trying to do a U-turn can really slow things down. The parade is for those cars that may have been on McHenry prior to ’73, not a new pickup pulling a vintage Mustang on a trailer for a raffle – regardless of the value of the charity. Again, thanks to Modesto and all the drivers of those classic cars.
