Terri & Don Lawson: Modesto Bee story helps brothers

June 6, 2014

In December, Ken Carlson wrote an article about Terri Perez and her sons Juan and Miguel, both suffering with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. As we got to know the brothers better, we learned of their wish to have an iPad. Being bedridden all day long, we knew iPads would broaden their worlds. We started a GoFundMe campaign online asking for donations.

In April, I left a voice message for Ken asking him to do a follow-up story about the family. Ken responded immediately and The Bee sent photographer Debbie Noda to the Perez home.

On May 3, a second article (“Friends share music with brothers,” Page A1) about the Perez brothers was published along with online video featuring the Perez family and friends enjoying music.

With the generosity of 30 community members, we had enough to buy two new iPads, two AppleCare warranties, two floor stands and two Otterbox cover protectors!
