Stanislaus County sheriff’s detectives on Monday were asking the public to help them find the person who started a south Modesto house fire that seriously burned a man as he escaped the blaze. Jonathan Couch suffered second- and third-degree burns on more than 75 percent of his body.

The arson case is being investigated as an attempted homicide. No suspects have been identified. Detective Frank Soria said they have had very little information from potential witnesses in the neighborhood. The fire was reported about 10:50 p.m. at the home in the 300 block of Glenn Avenue, between Crows Landing Road and Seattle Street.
